Casa Campestre is the home to Ben, Sarah, Ebbie (6) and Zia (1 month), as well our 3 dogs, 3 cats, Pig, Chickens and Ducks and Turkeys! We moved to Ometepe 5 years ago and have been living here ever since.
Our farm was nothing more than an overgrown jungle when we got here and we didnt have the Hospedaje in Balgue. Now it is home to not only us and our animals, but also to a huge diversity of plants and wild animals since we started managing the property. We have many varieties of fruit including Avacodo, Lemon, mandarin, Grapefruit, Jackfruit, Almond, Achee, Passion fruit and Mango amongst many others. We also have kitchen gardens which supply our farm and the guesthouse with fresh vegetables and herbs.
Our aim is to become completly self reliant from the property and to boost local employment which is cripplingly low meaning the locals have very little opportunity for gainful employment, something we hope to address in some way from our tourist enterprises. To that end we employ a number of local staff who get good rates of pay and good condituions of work.
Whilst staying on the farm you will be welcome to enjoy any seasonal produce we have a surplus of and you'll be able to help yurself to a number of vegetables and fruits we have grown through our tourist area's. You can also expect to see a great deal of wildlife, including Howler Monkeys, Deer, Large Iguana, Sea Eagles, Humming birds and Guatuse along with many other birds, lizards, snakes and insects. The farm is teeming with life!
