Maderas Volcano and Concepcion Volcano hikes
You can find guides through Cafe Campestre for both of these hikes

Bike Hire
You can hire bikes from a number of places in Balgue

Ojo de Agua
Makes a great 1/2 day trip and is a fantastic place to relax and cool off. Hire a bike and pedal there - 45 minutes from Balgue.

Money & Banking: There are a number of Banks and cash macines in Moyogalpa and 1 cash machine in Altagracia. You'll need your passport to do any banking transactions and expect to be charged for withdrawals.

Health: There are medical clinics and pharmacies in Balgue but the main hospitals are in Alta Gracia and Moyogalpa. We are quite isolated and people with serious injuries (broken bone and up) will have to get to Managua.

Communication: There is internet from Campestre but faster connections can be found in Moyogalpa or Altagracia. There is good mobile phone coverage around most of the island.

Practical: Useful items to bring on a trip to Ometepe include flashlight, insect repellent, sturdy boots and a rain coat or umbrella if you visit between May and October. It's stingy and spikey out there if you are trekking so trousers can be a real bonus too.
